To accompany the Chorus! Festival at Southbank Centre in 2010, Martin Creed created 'Work No 409' for the JCB glass lift at the Royal Festival Hall. As visitors travel up and down in the lift they are accompanied by scales in four-part harmony which correspond with the progression of the lift. As you reach the sixth and final floor, the scales reach A sharp, and as you descend to the ground floor you hear bottom E.
