2004 - Stranger Than Fiction

Stranger Than Fiction: From the Arts Council Collection

Exploring personal and invented narratives, the works in Stranger than Fiction revealed a potent and, at times, exotic world where truth is often more curious than fiction and where fiction is made more powerful through fact. The exhibition included photography, video and film by contemporary British artists including Jananne Al-Ani, Tracey Emin, Issac Julien, Donald Rodney, Zineb Sedira and Gavin Turk. The featured artists found insppiration from a variety of sources, including their personal situations, the notion of self and identity, family history, myth and legend.
