THE BEGINNING FROM 'ILLUSTRATIONS FOR FOURTEEN POEMS FROM C.P CAVAFY'

1967
Hockney, David
Cafavy's poem evokes an artist who, in the future, will be inspired by the memory of a sexual encounter. 'Nevertheless, how the artist’s life has gained. Tomorrow, the day after, or through the years he’ll write powerful lines, that here was their beginning.' A photograph in which the men look with confidence at the viewer, was Hockney's source for this image.
