IN THE DULL VILLAGE FROM 'ILLUSTRATIONS FOR FOURTEEN POEMS FROM C.P CAVAFY'

1967
Hockney, David
In Cavafy's poem a youth dreams of escape: 'so he can make for the city and throw himself straight into its bustle and amusements: in the boring village where he’s waiting- he fell into his bed this evening sick with desire,' The expanse of white paper in the Cafavy etchings was an important component in the simplicity of the images.
